On March 20, the Nassau County Legislature honored two Nassau County Police Department Officers from the 4th Precinct who saved the life of an 85-year-old woman who was not breathing.
On January 18, Officer Michael Dudine and Officer Gregory Diaz got dispatched to East Rockaway, where an 85-year-old woman was choking on food. When they got there, they found the woman lying on the floor not breathing. The officers checked for a pulse and started CPR. During compressions, they worked to remove the obstruction to her airway. Officer Diaz used a LifeVac to suction out the obstruction and alleviate the blockage. The officers were successful and were able to help the woman regain consciousness after her airway became unblocked. She was transported to South Nassau Hospital for treatment.
“Thank you to Officers Dudine and Diaz for their help in saving the life of this woman,” Deputy Presiding Officer Howard Kopel said. “Because of their quick action, they were able to keep her alive. Our police do so much for the community, and I am proud to say we have the best police force in the nation.”
