The Press Is Selling out Objectivity for Cold, Hard Cash

There was a time when the Fourth Estate was the one remaining institution that could tell truth to power.

Republicans and Democrats would fight to hear the best spin on their actions, but the media would be the check to ensure the public was given a truthful and balanced picture.

Oh, but that concept is a thing of the past. Many would be shocked to learn that the Associated Press, once one of the most respected arms of journalism, is now accepting donations from special interest groups with an agreement in which they, in turn, will run stories for those groups. Not surprisingly, those stories are usually tilted to the liking of those delivering the cold, hard cash to the journalists.

According to an editorial for the New York Post, “The Associated Press admits it has taken $8 million from climate activists to write about their pet issues, so it’s ‘assigning more than two dozen journalists across the world to cover climate issues.’” https://nypost.com/2022/02/18/the-associated-press-turns-prostitute/

So the climate zealots got favorable articles, and the AP got rich. Meanwhile, the public got cheated of the truth. Slanted stories were portrayed as objective analysis.

This is huge because the AP is one of the main outlets that supplies stories to local newspapers around the country.

Reporters Co-opted by Sitting on George Soros’ Boards

Meanwhile, Politico has been allowing its journalist to sit on boards established by evildoer George Soros, the same billionaire who is funding soft-on-crime district attorneys throughout the nation. https://nypost.com/2023/01/23/how-george-soros-co-opts-the-media-and-keeps-criticism-down/

Soros creates a board that has the guise of promoting fair news, and then places journalists on seats on the board. Many receive significant prestige for their participation. It’s no surprise that liberal journalists such as Christiane Amanpour turn around and defend Soros when he is criticized for attacking America.

According to investigative author Matt Palumbo, other notable journalist serving on Soros’ boards include:

  • PolitiFact Editor-in-Chief Angie Dronbic Holan, who serves on the board of the Soros-backed International Fact-Checking Network
  • NPR’s president and CEO, John Lansing, who is connected by the direct funding Soros gives his publication.
  • CBS’ Margaret Brennan and CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, both of whom serve on the board of the massively influential Council on Foreign Relations, a Soros-backed think tank specializing in U.S. foreign policy.
  • NBC’s Lester Holt, the Washington Post’s Sally Buzbee, Associated Press Executive Editor Julie Pace, and Reuters Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni, all of whom sit on the board of the Committee to Protect Journalists, a Soros-funded organization that purports to defend the rights of journalists.

There’s nothing wrong with individuals in the media expressing opinions, just as we do in this newspaper, but be honest about your editorial bias. Don’t pretend to be an objective reporter when you’re sitting on the board created and funded by the same subject that you were supposed to be covering objectively.

As the Post editorial notes: “Sorry: this is news as prostitution. Pay the media to get the coverage you want. “
