Steve Levy’s Daily Rant: Tech Staff Quit Rather Than Help. Good Riddance.

Twenty-one technical staffers in the federal government quit their jobs rather than agreeing to provide information to the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

You may think you were standing on principle, but if you want to promote your own ideology, run for office. You were civil servants, who must obey the directives of your superiors. Your superiors were appointed by the duly elected president who is accountable to the American people. You are accountable to no one, except your bosses.

It is not for the civil servants to determine what should remain in the budget and what should be cut.

If their superiors are asking them for information so that the decision-maker can formulate a plan as to the future of budget outlays, then they have an obligation to perform their jobs.

It’s not the job of these civil servants to second-guess their superiors. When critics complain about the deep state, this is what they’re talking about. It is very very real.
