The Nassau County Legislature recently authorized $5.8 million in funding for a new roundabout to be built at the intersection of Round Swamp Road at Quaker Meeting House Road in Farmingdale.
The unanimous vote on September 23 includes bond authorization for a capital project that will replace the intersection configuration with a safer alternative. County officials said that the work is planned for the near term so that the project will be complete in time for the September 2025 Ryder Cup, which will be held at the legendary Bethpage Black golf course.
The projects are being funded through a package of amendments to the 2023 Capital Plan and bond authorizations that will fund major investments in road infrastructure, public safety, Nassau Community College, and other countywide priorities.
“Not only will this infrastructure investment help prepare Nassau County for one of the golf world’s greatest events, it will bring long-term traffic safety benefits long after the tournament has been contested,” Deputy Minority Leader Arnold Drucker (D-Plainview) said. “Upgrading and improving Nassau County’s infrastructure is one of my top priorities as a legislator, and I applaud my colleagues in the Democratic Minority for standing together to secure bond authorization for a critical project that will boost quality of life for 16th District residents.”
