Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of human remains found in Brentwood.
Third Precinct officers responded to a report of remains found in a sump at Fifth Avenue and Bancroft Road at 10:55 a.m. It was determined the remains were human.
The remains were transported to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine the identity and cause of death.
Long Island Life & Politics has reached out to the SCPD to see if this discovery may be connected to the Gilgo Beach murders or the other case in Amityville, in which four people were arrested for dismembering a Yonkers couple and burying their body parts in Bethpage, Babylon and West Babylon. An SCPD spokesperson said the case is under investigation.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
