Driver, Pedestrian Killed in Separate Incidents

Suffolk County police are investigating two separate crashes, one in which a driver died in a one-car crash and another involving the death of a pedestrian.

On February 17, Nyree Walker was driving a 2016 Honda Civic eastbound on Montauk Highway in Oakdale when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree at approximately 12:35 p.m.
Walker, 28, of Wyandanch, was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Later that night, a male pedestrian was crossing Route 110 at the intersection of Conklin Street in East Farmingdale at 11:10 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound 2001 GMC Savanna. The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the GMC, John Hader, 57, of Lindenhurst, was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
