Woman Arrested for Allegedly Leaving Scene of Crash after Hitting Bicyclist

Suffolk County Police have arrested a woman after she fled the scene of a motor vehicle crash that allegedly critically injured a bicyclist in Wyandanch last night. 

On August 1, Bertha Dantant was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry westbound on Irving Avenue, when the vehicle struck a bicyclist heading northbound on Lewis Street as he was making a right turn onto eastbound Irving  Avenue at 10:07 p.m.  

The adult male bicyclist, who is approximately 50 years old, has not yet been identified by police. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical condition.  

Major Case Unit detectives charged Dantant, 49, of Wyandanch, with Leaving the Scene of a Crash  Resulting in Serious Physical Injury, and the Toyota was impounded.  

Dantant was held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District  Court in Central Islip on August 2.
