Governor Kathy Hochul is actually doing victory laps about her most recent press release, which has her crowing about her proposal to give working papers to illegal immigrants.
Why keep them on the dole, she asks, when we can put them to work? Well, how about, instead of taking them, telling them they can’t stay here illegally? How about the fact that they’re working in our system, which takes jobs away from American citizens who are on the unemployment line, while also driving down wages for American citizens breaking their backs day in and day out?
And, most importantly, how about the fact that rewarding illegal immigrants with a government-initiated job will only act as a further magnet for more illegals to venture their way into the New York area?
When it comes to the flow of illegal immigration, messages matter. When our leaders send a message, as was the case in the last administration, that we wouldn’t roll out the red carpet and give those coming here illegally more benefits than American citizens, the immigration flow will be stemmed considerably. This latest administration has been sending the message that illegal immigrants are not only welcome, but are encouraged to come. Remember the words of candidate Joe Biden, who said we want to see a surge at the border.
When states provide free college tuition, free healthcare, and the ability to get a driver’s license and professional license for illegal aliens, we are telling them that there’s no value to being a citizen and coming here legally.
Yes, people who come here illegally live in the shadows. That’s what happens when you break the law. We should not be so foolish as to now be providing jobs for those who knowingly break our nations laws to cross the border. Hochul now wants to raise our taxes again to pay for the MTA, while her budget gave away billions in aid to illegal immigrants who flowed into New York over the last couple of years. What’s wrong with this scenario?
