Donald Trump was not the only conservative running to lead a Western democracy who was targeted for imprisonment or a ban from the ballot by his leftist opponents in power.
It has become a new trend among the left within the so-called enlightened world.
French populist Marine Le Pen was barred from running for president for five years based upon specious claims.
The populist-leaning candidate in Romania, Calin Georgescu, who was a threat to the elites and the status quo, and who led on the first ballot in Romania’s election, was barred from continuing to campaign in the runoff for fear he could actually win.
In Germany, their populist AfD (Alternative for Germany) party, which seeks control of illegal immigration and finished second in the February election, was barred from future elections. Additionally, the speech Gestapo now monitor citizens’ online postings and threaten them with imprisonment if they say things the elite dislike.
In Brazil, populist conservative and former president Jair Bolsonaro was placed under house arrest, charged with the same type of crime Trump was: for supposedly interfering with an election and barred from running again.
And yet, day after day, the mainstream media ignore this phenomenon and chirp that it’s the right that threatens democracy.
Vice President JD Vance was on target bashing the Europeans for quashing free speech. Democracies must be less consumed about fake threats and be on guard to combat this lurch toward true authoritarianism.
