The Audit Division of the Suffolk County Comptroller’s Office has been given the highest rating of “pass” on its internal quality control system by the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA).
During the month of June, the ALGA conducted its on-site review of the Audit Division’s operations and procedures and confirmed Suffolk County’s compliance with Government Auditing Standards (GAS), as promulgated by the Comptroller General of the United States.
In a letter to Comptroller John Kennedy, ALGA outlined numerous areas in which they believed his office excelled.
The ALGA noted that the division has a robust Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program that is closely monitored to ensure compliance with Yellow Book, license and certification requirements. This allows for highly skilled, well trained and knowledgeable staff, the ALGA said.
In addition, the electronic workpapers were very organized and well laid out, which allowed reviewers to easily follow and identify key areas for review. The association also found the audit reports to be well-organized, easy to read and highlighted important points for the reader to easily identify the recommendations made by the division to help auditees improve
processes and achieve compliance with laws and regulations.
ALGA was also impressed with the audit division’s internal quality control system and audit
operations in general, considering the size of the office. Kennedy extended his appreciation for
the professional and effective review that was conducted.
“We found this peer review to be a valuable and constructive process and sincerely thank the team for the thoughtful insights that they shared from their experiences,” Kennedy said.
