The Center for Cost Effective Government will host its “Pizza & Politics” event on October 20 to address the high cost of insurance rates in the state.
This free networking and policy event will take place at Butera’s, located at 100 S. Main Street in Sayville, starting at 6 p.m. The topic will be “Why New York’s Insurance Rates Are the Highest.”
The guest speaker will be Mike Florio, chief executive officer of the Long Island Builders Institute. According to his biography, Florio became CEO of the organization in January 2023. He previously served as chief of staff to Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove).
Earlier in his career, Florio held various leadership roles in Nassau County government, including Assistant to the County Executive, Legislative Finance Director, and Communications Director. He also worked as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., representing corporations and trade associations, and led several successful political campaigns.
Florio holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Bucknell University and a master’s degree in Political Management from George Washington University.
