Millions of New Yorkers were in shock when 33-year-old Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist candidate who espouses communist principles such as abolishing private property, shot to the top of the heap and won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City by double digits over former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The business community and traditional, normal New Yorkers are in a state of panic, thinking that a communist can realistically take the helm of New York City, which has served as the capital of the finance world for over a century.
They are now scurrying about with one meeting after another strategizing how they can best pool their resources behind one candidate to stop the communist from winning the race.
One minute they’re putting their eggs in the Cuomo basket as he had been polling closest to Mamdani. A week later, the big donors were coalescing behind Eric Adams, since they know him to be pro-cop and strong on Israel.
They believe it is essential to winnow the race down to one non-Mamdani candidate to defeat the socialist. The concern is that a splintered vote would allow him to win with his leftist base vote of 30% to 40%.
But there are two reasons to reject this premise. The first is that Cuomo’s ego will not allow him to quietly fade into the sunset. And Adams has too much on the line to end his need to retain power.
So let it be a splintered race and let’s put all our resources and efforts behind the surging Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, who could win this thing with just 30% of the vote.
What’s the point of stopping Mamdani if you put in office Andrew Cuomo, who also embraces far-left policies? Mamdani says he wants to defund the police. Isn’t that exactly what Cuomo did with his justice reforms in 2019? He ushered in cashless bail and prohibited judges from properly incarcerating murderers under the age of 18 years old.
And don’t count on Adams to deal with the illegal immigration problems, since he’s the one who brought it upon us.
Sliwa provides the only platform that would bring us back to the Giuliani/Bloomberg era which were the golden days of New York City.
Now that the entertaining Sliwa is getting significant air time, he has risen to a respectable 22% of those surveyed in a recent Harris poll, just a point behind Cuomo and a mere four points behind Mamdani. Adams lags behind at 13%.
This guy can actually win this thing. Why hold your nose and vote for the lesser of evils when we have a candidate who will make New York shine again?
