The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) a $3 million grant for upgrades to airfield security. The grant will fund the replacement of approximately seven miles of airport perimeter fencing and gates, as well as the installation of new closed-circuit monitoring devices and cameras around the airfield boundary.

“On behalf of the Islip Town Board, I’d like to recognize Congressman Andrew Garbarino and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for their steadfast advocacy and support of the airport and this grant award. They both understand and appreciate the importance of Long Island MacArthur Airport to the Region and fully support our public safety priorities. We are most grateful,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter (R-West Islip).

Department of Transportation grants are dispersed by the Federal Aviation Administration. These grants are intended to improve airport safety, efficiency, and capacity, contributing to the overall strength of the national air transportation system.

“We are always working to enhance and strengthen security at Long Island MacArthur Airport,” explained Aviation Commissioner Rob Schneider. “This grant will enable MacArthur Airport to install state-of-the-art equipment to further prevent unauthorized access to the airfield. The project is in conjunction with comprehensive federal security regulations established by the Federal Aviation Administration and Department of Homeland Security.”
