The indictment of New York City Mayor Eric Adams has created a scurry of vulture candidates hovering around to pick on the carcass and demand that Adams resign as they announced their own candidacies for the city’s top job.
It is indeed frightening that the four candidates surfacing are far-ranging, from extremely liberal to outright Marxist.
It is disheartening that former New York State Assemblyman and New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, one of the most liberal legislators of his era, may be seen as the most moderate of the bunch. Stringer is a lapdog for the municipal unions, especially the teachers union, so we know who will be calling the shots in his administration.
Then there is the public advocate Jumaane Williams, who is an unavowed socialist. He’s a strong supporter of the “defund the police” movement.
But even he may be outdone on the left by state Senator Zellnor Myrie (D-Brooklyn), who is the architect of the criminal justice bills that gave us cashless bail, the non-prosecutions of minors and debilitating constraints on DAs that let the violent criminals go free.
Equally dreadful is the present City Comptroller, Brad Lander, a candidate further to the left would be hard to find.
As bad as this lot is, even former Governor Andrew Cuomo would be an improvement.
This Dobson’s choice illustrates clearly why it’s so important to have a thriving two-party system. We can only pray that New Yorkers will finally start looking to Republican candidates for answers. Placing their faith in the Democrats has led this once amazing city into a precipitous decline.
