Who could be against the handicapped? Only cruel, heartless Republicans, say the liberal Democrats in Los Angeles, as they passed legislation requiring that any resurfacing of city roads would necessitate the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act. That, in turn, wound up requiring the city to make all of the sidewalks along the replaced route handicap accessible with curbs and ramps.
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Only a mean Republican could oppose this. But it turns out those repairs were so exorbitantly expensive that LA had to stop repaving their roads because they didn’thave the money to install all those ramps and curbs.
So, instead of repaving the roads, city employees are now instructed to just fill the potholes when they pop up.
There’s no telling how much damage and money this will cost for the residents of LA.
It just goes to show how dangerous virtue signaling can be.
