It’s interesting how the left objected to bans on violent protesters being able to mask up, yet are vociferously advocating to prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers from doing the same.
They claim it’s a double standard.
Actually, it is.
It’s a well-warranted double standard.
If you had told me before the pandemic that an edict would come down allowing law enforcement officers to wear a mask when executing an arrest, I would’ve said it’s crazy. Why do that? We need accountability.
But that was before the anarchists and Antifa folks started doxxing and shooting at ICE officers. In Mexico, the Mexican police and army often mask up because they’re afraid of getting murdered by the cartel.
I never thought the same could happen here, but it is certainly possible now, as we see protesters shooting at officers. So we should protect our ICE officers and their families.
That does not mean that they should not be held accountable for their actions. While each officer should be able to wear a mask, they should also have to have a serial number emblazoned on their garb so that they could be identified internally if a complaint is lodged against them.
We do not want that serial number accessible to Antifa idiots wanting to harass the officer.
On the other hand, we had always had mask bans for protestors in the past. It goes back for decades, and even a century, as we combatted the KKK from instilling fear in a community anonymously. It was always acceptable law until the George Floyd protests ensued and then everyone wanted the ability to wreak havoc anonymously.
Let them get the faces of criminals shown so we can have accountability, but let’s protect our law enforcement officers.
Is it a double standard?
You bet it is, and rightfully so.
