Illegal Immigrants Add to Health Costs, Too
Just finished reading a big two-page article from Newsday entitled “What’s driving the increase in healthcare costs.”
Here are the items they mentioned: weight loss, drug and medical advances, an aging population, New York State’s expensive healthcare system, and the consolidation of hospitals.
I’m sure they all played a role, but what’s interesting is how politically correct the article is by NOT mentioning one of the most obvious drivers of increased healthcare cost: the 12 million-plus people who were allowed to come into the country illegally and were either given direct healthcare or were told to flood our emergency rooms to get free healthcare there.
Someone has to pay for that. It’s taxpayers and others who actually pay premiums.
The first step toward fixing a problem is admitting what’s causing the problem.
Dems Reopen Government after Falsely Claiming They Didn’t Shut It Down
Long Island Life and Politics wrote an editorial last week about how ironic it was that a majority of Americans believe that it was Donald Trump and the Republicans who voted to shut down the government, when anyone who understands how the government works knew that it was the minority that refused to give the seven votes needed in the Senate to bypass the filibuster.
Once several Democrats came to their senses and voted to end the shutdown, the government reopened. Can anyone still believe it wasn’t the Dems who shut it down in the first place?
