In a mind-numbingly insensitive act, a local school board in Virginia voted to rename a school after Confederate General Stonewall Jackson.
After the George Floyd murder, there was an overreaction with some cities looking to remove statues of not only Washington and Jefferson, but Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln as well. Absolutely crazy.
But renaming schools after former leaders of the Confederacy was remarkably inappropriate. They weren’t founders of our constitutional republic; they were the enemy trying to destroy it.
This school board placing Jackson on a pedestal is extremely disconcerting and an insult to African Americans in that district.
Here’s an idea: Stop trashing our founding fathers and stop praising Confederates.
