Tens of thousands of people across the nation participated in protests this weekend against the president of the United States.
While this editorial board tends to side more on policy matters with the current president than his predecessor, we welcome the type of peaceful protests that took place over the weekend.
Those Americans disliking the president and/or his policies have every right in this amazing country to express their views — so long as it’s done peacefully. And that’s exactly what happened over the weekend.
These protests are far different than the type of hostile, aggressive and often violent protest that are initiated by the far left against ICE officers, federal buildings or Jewish students on campus.
Those protests that are dominated by anarchists such as Antifa or Marxist elements paid for by George Soros and other America-hating far leftists, often go over the line, assaulting police officers, closing down bridges and thoroughfares, breaking windows, destroying properties and intimidating innocent pedestrians.
Those are not protests. They are riots that should indeed be controlled.
The No Kings protests were announced in advance. They did not shut down highways and obtained permits where necessary. No buildings were destroyed. No police were assaulted and no one died of a heart attack stuck in an ambulance due to a closed bridge.
So while we disagree with the underlying issues supported by these protestors, we emphatically support their right to express their views in the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves.
