NYS’ Economy Is Suffering and Needs Help

NYS Assemblyman Keith Brown

Residents and businesses on Long Island and throughout the state deserve to see immediate changes made to New York state’s economy. Our state has developed a reputation of having some of the highest taxes in the U.S., as well as a financial future so bleak that thousands of individuals and families are leaving. More than 800,000 New Yorkers have moved out of state since 2020, and while the migrant crisis has exacerbated the state’s public safety issues, affordability continues to be a major catalyst.

I fully support state lawmakers and economic leaders teaming up to do a deep dive into our state’s current financial position, including how we stack up against other states and where we go from here. Until we eliminate New York state’s tax burden and affordability issues, thousands of New Yorkers will continue to leave our state to set roots somewhere else — in other parts of the U.S. with lower taxes, lower cost of living, better opportunities, and brighter futures. Making these prospects a reality for New York is a goal we must work toward for the good of our state and the families who call it home.

Keith Brown (R.C-Northport) represents the 12th Assembly District, which includes parts of Suffolk County, encompassing the vibrant towns of Huntington, Babylon and Islip.
