The “Combating Campus Anti-Semitism Act” (A.8399/S.7752) would prohibit the granting of tuition assistance awards to any student who has knowingly engaged in promoting antisemitism while attending a college or university in New York State. This proposal will send a clear message to students: antisemitism will not be tolerated.
Students throughout our state go off to college for a variety of reasons. They go to receive a higher education, make new friends and memories, take advantage of new opportunities, study abroad and prepare for an exciting career in a field they enjoy. Our students should not have to worry about being subjected to bullying, harassment and discrimination as a result of antisemitism on college and university campuses.
The Hamas attacks overseas have created hostile environments in different regions of our state, and this phenomenon has to be stopped. No student or member of the community should fear for their safety because they are Jewish—our state and nation celebrate different religions, and the persecution and hate crimes we are seeing will not be tolerated.
