The parent of a Freeport High School student is taking legal action against the school after her son was stabbed by another student. This will be an interesting case to follow because, ultimately, it may indeed take this type of lawsuit that finally gets schools to crack down on a bad seed within their buildings.
We have become far too permissive in our society of students who exhibit violent behavior. There are many teachers who claim that they are scared of these students physically and afraid over what the administration will do to them if they try to extract some type of discipline.
The Woke leaders within our schools and our state who push critical race theory and DEI — led by then Mayor Bill de Blasio — have actually issued orders stopping disciplinary actions in many cases because they disproportionately impact minority students. What a crazy overreaction! It has led to a case where the bad kids keep the good kids and teachers in fear. Enough of this!
I’ve often said that we should have a separate school building available just for chronically violent and disruptive students. Let them know that there are real consequences to their violent, intimidating behavior. The first time, you get a warning; the second time, you are out.
Maybe it’s the fear of a lawsuit that will finally lead to a reversal of course and put control back into the hands of teachers and administrators who want to keep their students safe.
