We’ve tried to point out just how wasteful and inefficient the Metropolitan Transit Authority is, but this latest tidbit of information takes the cake. We previously reported how the MTA is losing close to $1 billion a year in unpaid tolls and fares for the transit system. They simply don’t enforce their own rules. Rather than seeking more MTA police or cracking down on the scofflaws, they instead wasted $1 million for — get this — studying why people don’t pay the fares.
Might it be because the scofflaws know the MTA is a rudderless bureaucracy that has neither the will nor the competence to go after the violators?
This is why we have demanded that the state put the MTA under a financial control board that would have to first approve of these outlandish expenditures.
How dare the governor and various elected officials push for more taxes, tolls and congestion pricing schemes while they not only allow $1 billion a year in fares to go uncollected, but then allow for the waste of $1 million on a study to tell us why people don’t pay. Here’s the answer for no cost.
They do it because they can.
Because the idiots who run our state don’t have the willpower to enforce the law because they deem it to be racist.
We are a state being run by a bunch of fools and this latest fiasco is the ultimate proof.
