How disheartening that it was an MTA board member residing on Long Island that turned the screws on his fellow Long Island motorists by voting for the congestion pricing plan, which will cost the average motorist $15 just to drive into Manhattan.
Sammy Chu, former Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone’s one-time appointee to the board, had voted for the plan months ago. Now that Bellone is gone, Chu remains on the panel as an appointee from Governor Hochul.
Why wouldn’t Hochul want Chu on the board? He’s a loyal Democrat who put her desire for congestion pricing to fund city subways ahead of the constituents he is supposed to represent on Long Island. His pandering to his Democratic colleague earned him a reappointment to the board, but it will be devastating to the people of Suffolk County.
Chu gloated after his vote that it’s one of his proudest moments, and that his vote will help save the planet. What elitist nonsense!
We bet that Chu doesn’t have to commute into the city every day, as do contractors that now have to lay out this cumulatively enormous sum that will severely hurt their businesses.
Chu is popping his buttons after virtue signaling to his friends, family and liberal colleagues as to how he is saving the planet from carbon emissions. Chu gloated, “This single vote could be the most impactful thing I ever have to do to mitigate climate change in my entire life.”
Does anyone believe that this moronic congestion pricing policy is going to reduce carbon emissions even one iota as China continues to construct one to two new coal plants per week?
So, we are sure Chu feels proud about his vote to save the world, but we think the average commuter having to pay this enormous fee every day traveling to New York is going to have an entirely different perspective.
