How Headlines on Gender Exhibit Media Bias

By Steve Levy

When you chop off the sexual organs or the breasts of 13-year-olds, are you engaging in “transgender care” or is it “genital mutilation”?

It’s the same procedure, but the wording carries far different connotations.

The slanted headline at Newsday for the AP story on the topic takes the position that this mutilation is a positive thing and stopping it is somehow cruel. Thus, they use the word “transgender care” rather than describing what it really is: the irreversible mutilation of children.

Note the one-sided wording of the AP article: “The proposals are counter to the recommendations of major U.S. medical societies. An advocate for transgender children strongly refuted the administration’s claim about gender-affirming care, saying Thursday moves would put lives at risk.”

First off, the science is now showing that child mutilation does not erode the underlying psychological problems faced by those children. And secondly, it is a longtime disgusting tactic of the left to say that this mutilation must take place or the subjects will kill themselves. Parents had mentioned that they were placed under duress by these medical professionals who asked them, “Would you rather have a live daughter or a dead son?”

The U.S Department of Health made the wise decision and followed Western Europe in stopping the irreversible removal of sex organs for children.

Once they are of age, the individuals can do anything they want with their bodies. The age restriction is in place throughout the civilized world for the same reason we don’t allow children to smoke, drive or vote.

Unfortunately, this common-sense protection for children continues to be attacked from the left. The doctors and not-for-profits who support these mutilations have created a multimillion-dollar cottage industry. Providers are reaping millions from this new trend, telling children that they can solve their problems by changing their gender.

There’s a special place in hell for those who profit from this insanity.

This isn’t to say that there are indeed a small number of children who face gender dysphoria. They should be treated with respect, sensitivity and tolerance, but we should not allow these greedy doctors and companies to reap millions off of these intrusive procedures that many soon thereafter regret.

Rational people must overlook the Orwellian language used by the leftist media in calling this “transgender care” and bashing those who try to stop the mutilation as being cold and anti-trans.

Bravo to the brave leaders who are finally putting a stop to this madness.
