Don’t Politicize the Social Security Administration

We thought it odd when we received an email on Social Security masthead praising the Trump administration for saving Social Security.

There would be nothing wrong with such a letter if it came from the Republican National Committee or Trump‘s political agents, but it surprised us that it seemed to be an official message from the Social Security Administration.

We can’t remember a message being so blatantly political from such an agency.

Don’t get us wrong — we believe that, despite the flaws in the One Big Beautiful Bill, it’s far better than anything that would have been proposed by a Kamala Harris administration.

It continues the much-needed tax cuts so that middle- and working-class Americans do not experience a $2,000-$3,000 tax hike this year. It funds the closing of the border.

And it defunds a lot of the Woke political nonsense and crony capitalism that was involved in much of  the Green New Deal.

But it’s also true that the bill increases spending. Sure, there are some individual line items cut, but overall spending is increasing.

Democrats and their friends in the media have no standing to criticize this because they would’ve spent even more, and criticize any attempt to cut spending or even slow the increase.

Most of these increases are the result of entitlement growth.

A claim could be made that a stronger economy — which will likely be the result from the tax cuts and fewer regulations — will help contain the deficit over time and provide more money for much-needed programs such as Social Security. But that’s something where only time will tell.

It’s not appropriate for the bureaucrats in Social Security to be putting their political stamp on this type of letter.
