Biden’s False Statements on Inflation, the Deficit and Crime

It’s becoming crystal clear as we approach the 2024 election that President Biden’s main strategy will veer away from defending his record and shift almost totally to gaslighting the American people on the cornerstone issues of the day.

We’ve already heard the astonishing lie that the border is secure. But over the last week, Biden dropped some whoppers that go down in campaign history as among the most egregious lies in campaign lore.

The first relates to tax cuts, spending and the deficit.

Biden is resorting to the 2020 election mantra that Trump is the supporter of the billionaire class, while lunchbox “Scranton Joe” will be defending the working and middle classes. To bolster this fictional persona, Biden outright lies in stating that the Trump tax cuts are responsible for huge deficits we currently face. That is provably false.

While it is true that the deficit has skyrocketed over the last several years, it is entirely due to the free-spending ways of both Democrats and Republicans who sat in the Oval Office and in Congress. The tax cuts of 2017 actually led to MORE revenue coming into the treasury, not less. https://www.heritage.org/taxes/commentary/the-numbers-are-trumps-tax-cuts-paid That’s due to the fact that the tax cuts shifted more money parked offshore back onto American soil and led to more investment, stock, market growth and private sector jobs that led to a higher collection of taxes.

In fact, the upper one percent of earners wound up paying more into the Treasury than before the tax cuts. So yes, it’s an all-out lie to claim that the tax cuts increased the deficit. Had spending stayed flat after those tax cuts were enacted, the deficit would not have ballooned.

Unfortunately, both Trump and Biden increased spending dramatically with the help of both parties in Congress. Trump showed no fiscal discipline in his first three years and had to increase spending rather dramatically in 2020 to deal with Covid. However, by the time Biden took office, the economy was stabilized and there was no need for his trillions of dollars in extra spending. Remember, it was Democratic economists Lawrence Summers and Stephen Ratner who warned Biden that the spending spree would lead to historic inflation. Biden ignored them to America’s peril and we since have seen a 19% increase in inflation. https://www.economist.com/leaders/2023/05/11/joe-biden-is-more-responsible-for-high-inflation-than-for-abundant-jobs

In defending his record, Biden tried to blame Trump, claiming that Trump left him an economy where inflation was soaring. The truth is that inflation was moving at a snail’s pace at 1.4% when Biden inherited the Oval Office. https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/biden-claims-inflation-skyrocketing-took-office-despite-data-showing-opposite

On crime, we have seen huge spikes since Biden took office. It’s true that some of the spike began while Trump was still in office in the summer of 2020, but that was due to Democratic mayors and governors implementing cashless bail and soft-on-crime policies. Those policies were emboldened in Biden‘s administration and led to the highest increases in crime since the 1990s.

Last week, Biden disingenuously stated that crime is down to the lowest levels since the 90s. That’s pure hogwash. Those figures are due to a change in the FBI’s data collection methods which now ignore crime figures from the nation’s biggest cities. When you stop counting crimes in large cities such as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, the crime figures will drop. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/fairness-justice/2953562/bad-data-from-the-fbi-mislead-about-crime/

There once was a day when political statesmen had a sense of honor, and would refrain from such obvious boldface lies. Those days are long gone.

For our readers out there who are shouting out, “What about Trump’s lies?” We are not going to disagree that Trump has been a serial liar as well. That’s an article for another day.
