Leave it to the New York State government to botch the doling out of money to charities that was collected from its residents. https://www.timesunion.com/opinion/article/editorial-tax-checkoff-program-needs-overhaul-18625934.php
New York State had employed a system of seeking donations from taxpayers on their tax forms to go to certain charitable causes, such as the assisting of veterans. But New York’s bureaucracy is so big and unworkable that about one-half of all the donations earmarked for these good causes were not distributed by state officials.
That’s right — New York asked taxpayers to give money through their tax filings to these needy organizations, and then turned around and let those funds just sit in a bank account somewhere that no one was paying attention to.
It’s a sad commentary on how dysfunctional the state has become.
