Last week, New York State Attorney General Tish James issued a memo claiming that any school board member in New York State who dared to bring up the issue of gender identity at a school board meeting, or allows others to discuss it, could be disciplined, including the potential removal of the elected member from that board.
This blatantly unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment must be denounced by every member of a free republic. Thankfully, it is being legally challenged by some on the Massapequa School Board, including board president Kerry Watcher. Good for them.
It is without question one of the most poisonous attacks on free speech ever uttered by a state leader in New York.
For years, the left and their friends in the media have been falsely peddling the claptrap that the right, and particularly Donald Trump, are the greatest threats to democracy.
While Trump might use some hard-nosed tactics and employ harsh rhetoric, no one can say that his critics have been imprisoned. Trump has been the subject of more negative press coverage than any president in history, and, yet, the press will continue to denounce him every day without recourse, other than an occasional civil defamation suit that Trump has every right as an American to bring against those who maliciously publish false material.
But it has been the left that has championed the cause of cancel culture and censorship, not only here in the United States, but in Europe and other parts of the world. Thirty people a day are now arrested by the leftist government in England for posting political points of view the liberal government disapproves of.
The Trump-hating FBI pressured social media companies to ignore the Hunter Biden laptop story and to take down political posts they disagreed with.
And now, the attorney general of the state of New York has threatened to remove school board members who dare to object to biological males with their male genitalia intact from undressing in girls’ and women’s locker rooms, or having biological males compete against girls in sports, putting them at a competitive disadvantage and risking physical injury.
Liberals marched in a No Kings Day against Trump earlier this year. Will they speak out against the blatantly unconstitutional action of New York’s Democratic Attorney General? Don’t hold your breath.
It’s one thing for the AG to speak out politically against those who might hold a differing opinion from hers on gender issues. But how dare she say that anyone bringing up the issue at a school board meeting can be removed from the board?
Who does she think she is? A king?
