The Northport VA Medical Center will receive a portion of an additional $800 million in federal funding for VA infrastructure upgrades nationwide.

The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to realign additional funds from savings gleaned from various Veterans Health Administration reform efforts. This money will then be used to make infrastructure improvements to health care facilities to ensure safe and effective patient care.

The additions will bring total Non-Recurring Maintenance program spending for fiscal year 2025 to $2.8 billion — a nearly $500 million increase from fiscal year 2024.

The funding will support a wide range of projects at the Northport VA Medical Center, including both construction and design.

In terms of construction, the plan is to upgrade emergency generators, renovate nuclear medical tomography machines, repair solar systems, renovate clinical/support spaces, repair roofs and facades on one of its buildings, replace primary electrical distribution systems, renovate the sterile processing department and replace the boilers.

For design changes, the VA plans to upgrade utility systems such as piping and water collection systems, complete the sprinkler systems in three buildings, and upgrade the electronic Human Resources Management (eHRM) infrastructure.

“These investments are a direct result of recent reforms to make the VA more efficient and Long Island Veterans are seeing the benefits. From critical facility upgrades to expanded clinical space and improved safety systems, this funding will help the Northport VA deliver on its promise to those who served,” said U.S. Representative Nick LaLota (R-Rocky Point). “Our Veterans on Long Island deserve first-class care in a 21st-century facility. This is a win for Long Island’s Veterans and I’ll continue fighting for them in Washington.”
