Suffolk County Republican Committee Chairman Jesse Garcia announced that, despite the guilty verdict Donald J. Trump received from a jury trial, he will continue to support the former president.

On May 30, Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying records. He is expected to return to court on July 11 for sentencing. Trump said he plans to appeal.

“Today the liberal left has made it clear that they are desperate to manipulate this election by exploiting and weaponizing the criminal justice system to help their failed President Joe Biden,” Garcia said. “This is a disgusting distortion of justice led by a partisan district attorney who campaigned on sending Donald Trump to jail and a compromised judge who prevented evidence to be placed into evidence and issued slanted jury instructions.”

U.S. Representative Anthony D’Esposito (R-Garden City) reiterated Garcia’s sentiments. “The corrupt Alvin Bragg & his left-wing allies have completed their shameful witch hunt against President Trump by railroading a conviction through a partisan New York court in an attempt to help Joe Biden’s failing campaign,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). Our best revenge is victory in November.”

Another Congressman, Mike Lawler (R-Pearl River), was even more blunt, calling it “a sad day for America.”

“The willingness of hyperpartisan New York Democrats like Attorney General Letitia James, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and even Governor Kathy Hochul, to abuse their monopoly on power to wage political war on their enemies is downright frightening,” Lawler stated. “And meanwhile, violent criminals get away scot-free thanks to cashless bail, all courtesy of the same Democrats who went after President Trump.

Meanwhile, Democrats such as Hochul thought it was a just verdict. “[The May 30] verdict reaffirms that no one is above the law,” she said in a statement.

Bragg, who prosecuted the case, was accused of bipartisanship and political prejudice. He said in a statement, “While this defendant may be unlike any other in American history, we arrived at this trial, and ultimately today at this verdict, in the same manner as every other case that comes through the courtroom doors: by following the facts and the law and doing so without fear or favor.”

Garcia said that, when Trump appeals, he “will no doubt rise high above this travesty” and this “courtroom charade” will mean more support for Trump in November. “We stand with President Trump, and have no doubt that he will win an appeal and win another term as the President of the United States of America.”
