Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D-Uniondale) was sworn in during an inaugural ceremony held on March 10. Nicks will represent the Second Legislative District, which is comprised of the communities of Uniondale, Westbury, New Cassel and portions of Hempstead Village. After her special election victory on February 25, Nicks will serve the remainder of the term of Siela A. Bynoe, who left the Legislature after being elected to the New York State Senate.

Before the committee meetings, Nicks was sworn in by Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove) as family, friends, supporters and colleagues from the Uniondale Fire Department – where she has volunteered for more than 14 years and achieved the rank of second lieutenant – looked on and celebrated.

“I am incredibly honored to be representing Legislative District 2 – which encompasses the communities where so many friends, family members and neighbors live,” Nicks said. “Many of you who are sitting here today know the work and advocacy I have put in the community, and I look forward to working with this legislative body to make sure that the residents of Nassau County are represented by their government.”
