Nassau County Legislator Seth Koslow (D-Merrick) officially launched his campaign for Nassau County Executive on January 8. He pledged to bring accountability, affordability, and responsible governance back to Nassau County. Koslow said he aims to end the misuse of public funds and focus on policies that benefit Nassau County residents, not political agendas.

Last month, Long Island Life & Politics reported that Koslow filed paperwork to run for county executive. At that time, Koslow said he was unsure if he would run; it would depend on how much backing he would receive and how much money he could raise.

According to his biography on the Nassau Legislature’s website, Koslow represents the Fifth Legislative District, which entails most of Freeport and Merrick, as well as parts of North Merrick and North Bellmore. In 2023, he was elected legislator, beating out GOP opponent Joe Baker.

He served as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, his biography states, and, in 2013, became Queens County Assistant District Attorney. Three years later, he left the Queens District Attorney’s Office to establish his own law firm, SIK Law. He is admitted to practice law with the New York State and New Jersey Bars, as well as the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

In addition to his law practice, he taught college courses on criminal procedure and criminal law at Briarcliffe College and volunteers his time as a youth baseball coach.

“This administration has broken their promises and failed Nassau residents,” said Koslow. “Nassau County families are being squeezed while their tax dollars are wasted on frivolous lawsuits, inflated salaries, and self-serving political promotions. I’m running to restore trust, eliminate waste, and make our County more affordable for everyone.”

Among his campaign promises are lowering property taxes and implement fiscally responsible policies that ease the burden on residents; ending unnecessary legal battles and reducing oversized administrative expenses to ensure public funds are used effectively; introducing accountability measures to ensure that every dollar is spent with residents’ best interests in mind; and investing in essential services, infrastructure, law enforcement and education to improve the quality of life across Nassau County.

“This is an important moment for Nassau County. We need a leader that will put families first, fight for fiscal responsibility, and work tirelessly to keep our communities safe,” said Jay S. Jacobs, chairman of the New York State and Nassau County Democratic Committees. “Seth Koslow has the integrity and vision to lead Nassau County out of the current administration’s incompetence. He understands what it takes to make government work for the people, not the politicians. I am confident that Seth will deliver the leadership our residents deserve.”

Koslow’s campaign seeks to end what the candidate calls the Blakeman administration’s reckless fiscal practices and redirect resources to where they are most needed. This wasteful spending, Koslow said, has left residents footing the bill while vital services remain underfunded. he said his campaign aims to end this culture of mismanagement.

“Nassau County taxpayers deserve better,” Koslow added. “As County Executive, I will ensure every decision reflects the priorities of the people. We will prioritize our residents, and ensure that every dollar is spent wisely.  It’s time to build a government that works for everyone, not just the politically connected.”

Long Island Life & Politics reached out to Blakeman’s office for comment and is waiting to hear back.
