Leaders of the Mid Island Y JCC, community residents, and regional supporters of the JCC movement gathered at the Mid Island Y JCC in Plainview on July 31 to celebrate a $950,000 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant secured and delivered by Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D-Plainview).
The funds will help bolster one of Nassau and Long Island’s preeminent hubs of Jewish life – one that is also regarded as one of the most-enjoyed and comprehensive cultural centers serving a community with the rich and diverse tapestries of cultures, religions and ethnic traditions found in the greater Plainview, Old Bethpage, Syosset and Woodbury communities.
Drucker secured final approval for the $950,000 ARPA grant –the single largest-ticket ARPA item secured by an individual legislator — on November 20, 2024. What made such a grant program possible was the significant tranche of federal ARPA funding received by the county – some of which was set aside to support eligible not-for-profit organizations and special districts that deliver ARPA-approved services.
“As a lifelong Plainvew resident whose family has benefited from the continuous existence of an outstanding, state-of-the-art Mid Island Y JCC, this grant will further empower them to serve the community and enlighten future generations,” Drucker said. “Today and always, I thank Rick Lewis and Marlie Cohen for maintaining a laser’s focus upon delivering engaging programs that keep the Mid Island Y JCC shining brightly as a beacon for Jews across Nassau County and as a community hub that we all take great pride in.”
