Suffolk County police responded to two drowning deaths on the Fourth of July.
First Precinct Patrol officers responded to the backyard of 62 Jamaica Ave. in Wyandanch on July 5 at 2:12 a.m. after a 911 call reported a man unresponsive in a swimming pool. The officers pulled Kenneth Murphy from the pool and started performing CPR, but were unable to revive him. Murphy, 29, of Brooklyn, was pronounced dead at the scene.
On July 4 at approximately 4:50 p.m., Second Precinct officers responded to a 911 call at 136 Ketay Drive South in East Northport, reporting a man found unresponsive in a pool. John Vormbaum, 79, was pulled out of the water by a Second Precinct officer who performed CPR. Vormbaum, a resident of the home, was transported to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
