Two Dead in Hempstead House Fire

Two people are dead after a fire broke out at a house in Hempstead.

On March 13 at 4:04 a.m., the Hempstead Fire Department responded to a basement apartment fire on Albemarle Avenue. The fire was extinguished with the assistance of numerous other local fire departments.

Kenneth Roberts, 42, and a 12-year-old boy were discovered inside the residence. Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The home sustained substantial damage and was deemed uninhabitable. The Red Cross was requested to assist the multiple displaced residents.

The investigation is ongoing in coordination with the Nassau County Fire Marshal, Nassau County Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad and Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad.
