The Town of Brookhaven bought 3.65 acres of undeveloped land for open space preservation in Center Moriches on March 20. The property, located north of Montauk Highway between Wilcox Road and Brookfield Avenue, lies adjacent to the environmentally sensitive headwaters of Mud Creek, also known as West Senix Creek. The purchase price was $500,000.

Supervisor Dan Panico said the property adjoins two acres of protected woodland and complements previous acquisitions, including a three-acre parcel on the south side of Montauk Highway that was acquired in 2022, [highlighted in yellow] and a recently completed 10-acre acquisition along the banks of West Senix Creek.

“Brookhaven remains committed to protecting undeveloped land and preserving water quality for our creeks and bays,” Panico said.

Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig said, “I am lucky to work with Supervisor Panico and members of the Town’s law department who care so deeply about our environment. It’s always a good day when the Town of Brookhaven is able to protect undeveloped lands and preserve water quality.”
