A crowd gathered in Riverhead to honor Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon (C-Rocky Point) being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps.
“People don’t get promoted for doing their job really well,” said Colonel (Ret.) James Brennan, USMC, who administered the Oath of Office to Lennon and delivered formal remarks during the ceremony. “They get promoted by demonstrating their potential to do more.”
Lennon, a Suffolk County Legislator who has served in numerous leadership roles within the Marine Corps and has also been a tireless advocate for veterans throughout Suffolk County, was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel at the Maxine S. Postal Auditorium in Riverhead. The promotion of Lieutenant Colonel is a milestone in a career marked by dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to the mission. Military leaders, elected officials, veterans and community members gathered to recognize Lennon’s distinguished service and continued commitment to the nation and its veterans.
“We were pleased to host Chad’s promotion ceremony in our auditorium prior to our General Meeting. Chad is the only sitting legislator who is a veteran. His distinguished career of service to the United States and Suffolk County is deserving of recognition,” said Presiding Officer Kevin J. McCaffrey (R-Lindenhurst). “Attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps is a significant accomplishment and is the first step toward higher level command and staff positions.”
The ceremony included the formal reading of promotion orders, the pinning of new insignia by his children, and traditional remarks. Representatives from various veteran service organizations, along with active-duty and retired military personnel, were in attendance to show their support.”
“Legislator Chad Lennon exemplifies public service dedication and unwavering patriotism,” said Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine. “On behalf of all residents in this county, we congratulate Lieutenant Colonel Chad Lennon for reaching this prestigious rank in the United States Marine Corps.”
