The Town of Riverhead will host a public forum on the proposed North Fork Transmission Pipeline on August 13 at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall Board Room, located at 4 W. Second Street in Riverhead.
The goal of the forum is to communicate and share information regarding the Suffolk County Water Authority’s plan to install an 8.5-mile-long, 24-inch transmission line through the Town of Riverhead (north on County Road 105 then east on Sound Avenue), how it may impact the Town and its residents and explain the Monroe Balancing Test the Town Board will apply following a public hearing on August 19, which is designed to assist in determining whether and to what extent the project will be deemed immune from local zoning and codes.
Panelists will include Jeffrey Seeman, an environmental consultant to the town; Town Councilman Bob Kern, who is liaison to the Riverhead Water District; Water District Superintendent Frank Mancini; Town Attorney Erik Howard; Dawn Thomas, the town’s Department of Economic Development, Planning & Building director; and the town’s senior planner, Matt Charters.
In addition, members of the public are invited to submit questions or recommend points for discussion related to the Transmission Line. Questions or comments may be sent to charters@townofriverheadny.gov with the subject line “Transmission Line Forum” on or before 4:30 pm on August 11. The Transmission Line Forum Agenda will be posted on the town’s website on or about August 12.
The town said the format of the Transmission Line Forum shall be informal and is designed to provide information and encourage open dialogue, questions and discussion.
In addition to in-person attendance, the public can livestream the forum here or log onto Zoom with the Webinar ID at 842 0806 0311, and the passcode is 035046. People can call in via Zoom phone at (929) 205-6099.
