Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico has partnered with Dress for Success Brookhaven and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office to launch the inaugural Annual Fashion Show on April 30 at the Brookhaven Town Hall, located at One Independence Hill in Farmingville. The event is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.
While Women’s History Month is traditionally celebrated in March, the organizers have chosen April for the fashion show to align with the graduation season for undergraduate, graduate, and law students who are on the brink of entering the job market.
The Annual Fashion Show aims to achieve a dual objective: to drive donations towards Dress for Success Brookhaven and to impart knowledge on appropriate professional attire for interviews, office environments, and specific professions to the soon-to-be graduates. The evening’s agenda will feature guest speakers, raffle drawings, and a fashion show displaying a range of professional outfits, with the addition of makeup and hair styling demonstrations. Details on the full program are expected to be unveiled in the upcoming weeks.
“The idea for the First Annual Fashion show was born in Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office when he asked me if Dress for Success Brookhaven could participate. My office, the DA’s office and Dress for Success Brookhaven got together and worked out the details,” Panico explained. “I encourage Brookhaven Town residents to donate and be a part of this very special event.”
Men’s and women’s suits and attire will be accepted, with all female clothing donated to Dress for Success Brookhaven. Men’s suits will be donated to Career Couture, Suffolk County’s one-stop employment resource center.
Female models ages 18 and up are encouraged to participate in the show and model the suits that students can receive free of charge. The 1st Annual Fashion Show will also showcase couture by a local designer who creates suits and dresses that are appropriate for businesswomen to wear to casual and formal events. The deadline for the model casting call is March 25. Models must be available for fittings in the Dress for Success Boutique at Brookhaven Town Hall on that day to participate in the show.
In addition to models, the organizers are seeking volunteers to assist with various aspects of the event, including hair and makeup, setup, takedown, and other necessary tasks. This collaborative effort not only supports emerging professionals in their career endeavors but also emphasizes the critical role that professional appearance plays in securing and maintaining employment.
Those who are interested in participating as a model, donor, or extra set of helping hands, please contact Kim
Jerideau (631) 626-1007 or Shannon Wilson (516) 712-9406. All donations must be delivered to either one at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, 725 Veterans Memorial Highway, William J. Lindsay County Complex, Building 77 in Hauppauge.
