remodeling of the Mastic-Shirley Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Shelter, which they have called for over the years.

The updated station includes a covered waiting space, brighter LED security lighting, new benches, new station electronic signs and Public Address equipment, security cameras, and disability ramp access to the platform, offering a new look for LIRR users.

“A new station shelter was desperately needed for many, many years,” said Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Karen Dunne-Kesnig. “I’d say it’s more than a facelift. I just hope and pray that the community and the people who come here let it stay this way.”

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico said he still wants to see the LIRR establish a non-traffic blocking grade crossing at William Floyd Parkway and to relieve massive morning and evening traffic congestion at Mastic Road.
