Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a house fire that killed two people and injured one person in Smithtown.
On November 30, police responded to 911 calls reporting a house fire, located at 178 Fifty Acre Road South, at approximately 3:15 p.m. Two of the residents — Christine Lehmann, 52, and her son, Nicholas Lehmann, 25 — were located inside and pronounced dead at the scene. One resident, Ronald Montagna, 91, was transported with smoke inhalation and burns to Stony Brook University Hospital.
The St. James Fire Department was assisted by multiple departments in extinguishing the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears non-criminal at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392.
