Suffolk Police Respond to Fireworks Injuries

Suffolk County police responded to reports of people being seriously injured by fireworks during the Fourth of July.

First Squad detectives reported that Ryan McCloskey was lighting a firework at a party in front of 284 Trouville Road in Copiague when it exploded in his hand at approximately 9:10 p.m. The explosion severed three fingers on his left hand and damaged the other two. He also suffered a burn to one leg.

Responding First Precinct Patrol officers applied a tourniquet to stem the bleeding before McCloskey, 21, of Eastchester, was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for
treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

According to Sixth Squad detectives, a large gathering of people were watching a fireworks display at the residence located at 9 Foxrun Court at approximately 10 p.m., when a firework went astray. Two men, a woman and a girl were injured, and several cars parked on the block sustained damage.

All four were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. Patrice Ambroise, 38, of Mount Sinai, is being treated for burns and a serious leg injury. Kieran Doyle, 30, of Selden, is being treated for burns and a severed finger. A 30-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl were treated for minor injuries.
