The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred in Carle Place.

On September 3 at 12:25 a.m., police responded to a residence at 339 Rushmore Avenue for a Domestic incident involving an intoxicated male acting irrationally. When police arrived, officers saw James Rosano, 33, standing in front of the home allegedly holding a shotgun and pointing the weapon at the officers.

While he was menacing the police officers, he allegedly disregarded numerous verbal commands from officers to disarm himself. The police said it became reasonable and necessary for the officer to use deadly physical force to stop the threat to officers and the residents.

Rosano was pronounced dead at a local area hospital.

The Homicide Squad will continue their investigation into this incident in conjunction with the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
