A Deer Park woman pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempted murder after stabbing his ex-boyfriend’s mother to death and attempting to kill her former boyfriend.
On the morning of December 23, 2021, Shaquela Titley, 31, fatally stabbed Marie Mille, 85, in her Deer Park home. Titley, who had been renting an apartment inside Marie Mille’s home for approximately nine months, was apparently upset because Mille’s son, who was Titley’s ex-boyfriend, was not going to renew Titley’s apartment lease.
Titley’s ex-boyfriend, who was not present at the home when the stabbing took place, returned later that day to find his mother deceased and covered in blood. Titley then attacked him, stabbing him multiple times. The victim ultimately fought his way out of the house and sought refuge in a neighbor’s home. Titley was arrested later that day.
On August 29, 2023, Titley pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Judge Timothy P. Mazzei, to the charges of first-degree manslaughter, a Class B felony, and second-degree attempted murder, a Class B violent felony.
“This was a horrific killing of a defenseless elderly woman and family matriarch who didn’t stand a chance to fight against the rage that this defendant unleashed on her,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “I thank our prosecutors for their work in securing this conviction and seeking justice for the Mille family.”
Titley is due back in court on October 5, 2023, where she is expected to be sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
