The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has announced that contracts are now in the prequalification stage for the replacement of three bridges on eastern Long Island that pass over the LIRR.
The agency will solicit contracts for Cranberry Hole Road in Amagansett, River Avenue in Eastport and Sagg Road in Sagaponack, and are scheduled to be awarded by the end of 2025.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQs) have been submitted by design/build teams and are evaluated to create a shortlist of qualified proposers that possess the capability and experience necessary to undertake and successfully complete the work in contract.
MTA Construction and Design will establish a shortlist of up to four proposers to ensure adequate competition, and these shortlisted proposers will ultimately receive the Request for Proposal.
Assemblyman Tommy John Schiavoni (D-Sag Harbor) was told by the MTA that the agency will award these contracts “on an aggressive timeline” in order to expedite these projects.
“After advocacy from my office and officials from the Town of East Hampton, Cranberry Hole Bridge in Amagansett, and other LIRR bridges will finally see state resources and will be replaced,” said Schiavoni. “This is a step forward for these projects, some of which have awaited funding allocations for far too long.”
