A taxi driver is dead and his passenger seriously injured when the cab was struck by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train.

Long Island Life & Politics reached out to the Suffolk County Police Department and was referred to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department (MTAPD).

According to the MTAPD, on July 30, Daniel Seagren, a taxi driver with East End Transportation, was operating northbound on Wading River Road in Manorville. Preliminary investigation reveals the taxi, which was also carrying a passenger, drove around the crossing gates in the down position with its lights flashing and bells sounding.

The vehicle appeared to have stopped on the tracks ahead of an approaching eastbound LIRR train traveling from Ronkonkoma to Greenport, which struck the vehicle east of the Yaphank.
