Brookhaven Waives Marriage License Fees for Active-Duty Military Members

The Town of Brookhaven has announced it is waiving fees associated with marriage licenses and marriage certificates for those who are currently actively serving in the military.

The decision comes following the passage of Bill S.3756 by the New York State Senate on June 5, 2019, and Bill A55 by the New York State Assembly on June 18, 2019. Subsequently, the bill was signed into law, amending the Domestic Relations Law to allow for the waiver of fees when either party applying for a marriage license is an active-duty member of the Armed Forces. In alignment with this legislation, the Town of Brookhaven passed Resolution 2024-324, with a unanimous vote of 7-0 by the Town Board.

“I was happy to work with Supervisor Dan Panico and the entire Town Board to bring this legislation forward and show our support and appreciation for our men and women in armed services,” said Brookhaven Town Clerk Kevin LaValle.

“As a small gesture of gratitude and support for our brave servicemen and women, the Town of Brookhaven is proud to waive fees associated with marriage licenses and certificates for active-duty members of the Armed Forces,” stated Supervisor Dan Panico. “This resolution reflects our commitment to honoring their dedication and sacrifice.”

The current fee for a Marriage License and Marriage Certificate in the Town of Brookhaven is $40 each. For more information, visit www.BrookhavenNY.gov.
