Brookhaven Town Awarded “Tree City USA” Status for Ninth Straight Year

The Arbor Day Foundation has once again recognized the Town of Brookhaven as a “Tree City USA.” This is the ninth consecutive year the town has received this prestigious designation. The town was awarded in acknowledgment of its steadfast commitment to urban forestry management and tree conservation.

Established in 1976, the Tree City USA initiative promotes the development and management of public trees across the nation. Communities that aspire to earn this status must adhere to four fundamental standards: the establishment of a tree board or department, the implementation of a community tree ordinance, an investment of at least $2 per capita in urban forestry, and the celebration of Arbor Day.

“The Town of Brookhaven continues to lead the way to a greener Long Island and I am proud the we are recognized again by the Arbor Day Foundation for our commitment to planting and
preserving our trees,” said Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico. “Whether it’s a few in the yard or thousands of trees in a forest, each one has an important role to play in the cycle of life.”
