Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico, Councilwoman Jane Bonner, and local officials joined members of the Coram community at a menorah lighting held on December 17 at the historic Davis Town Meeting House in Coram. The event was organized by the Coram Civic Association in partnership with the Davis Town Meeting House Society and the Chabad House.
Originally scheduled for December 14, the first day of Hanukkah, the menorah lighting was postponed and held on December 17 due to snow. Despite the change in date, residents gathered to celebrate the Festival of Lights together in the heart of the community.
The ceremony was led by Rabbi Mendy Goldberg and included the lighting of the menorah, traditional blessings, and songs highlighting the meaning and traditions of Hanukkah. Following the lighting, attendees were invited to stay and enjoy latkes and jelly donuts while spending time with neighbors and friends. The Davis Town Meeting House Society also provided hot cocoa, hot cider, and goodie bags for guests.
“Hanukkah is a celebration of light, hope, and perseverance, and tonight’s ceremony truly reflected those values,” Bonner said. “It was an honor to celebrate with so many neighbors and community leaders.”
The event was free and open to the public and welcomed residents of all ages to come together in the spirit of unity, tradition, and community connection.
